So much to see and do in Kent
Broadstairs, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, Herne Bay, Margate, Ramsgate
The high powered roar and top speed thrills of grand prix powerboat racing will be making waves in Ramsgate this
weekend.
This year is the first time the Ramsgate Power Boat Weekend has been organiSed jointly by Thanet council and the Ramsgate Town Partnership and for that reason visitors can expect the event to be even more spectacular than usual.
The finishing touches are being put to the weekend's programme including signing up music and confirn1ing the attendance of a French market.
For sport lovers the weekend will be jam packed with powerboat races covering many different classes and there will also be races for younger drivers.
But the races are not just for fun. The first leg of the V24 European Championship takes place off Ramsgate before the competition moves on to Norway and Sweden.
About 50,000 people are expected to flood into the town over the weekend with many making their way along the impressive harbour wall to catch a closer glimpse of the action.
As well as the regular powerboats that people will recognise there will be a class for rigid inflatable boats in both the FI and 1'"2 classes. John Puddifoot is an Rill 1'"2 driver and said: "Ramsgate is a great venue for racing and we love coming here. "This is the second race of the season for us so there's a lot to race for as boats battle it out to establish themselves on the leader board. Talent "In the first race of the season racing was close, with the top three boats constantly changing position as they battled it out for first. "With new boats competing and an influx of new talent the championship is wide open. "It's going to be highly competitive on the water and will be extremely exciting to watch." But if racing doesn't interest you, don't stay away.
There is still plenty on offer and it will be a day out for all the family. People can jump into the ring with boxing champion Reubens, there will be street entertainers and plenty of different types of food to try. The French market also allows people to
stock up on unusual meats and cheeses from the continent The event is taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
